Homemade Foaming Baby Wash (2)

Just in case you have not noticed already I spend a lot of time thinking about my baby’s delicate skin.  He is just a pasty white boy and someone has to worry about him.  I am constantly reminding Daddy to apply and reapply sunscreen.  We make our own diaper rash cream and cloth wipe solution.  We even use homemade goat soap when we bathe him to avoid putting potentially harmful chemicals on his skin.  The thing we have been missing from bathtime though is bubbles!  This is why I decided to make our own baby wash!

Inspired by Leah from Crunchy Farm Baby and her recipe for Homemade Foaming Baby Wash I decided to use a foaming dispenser to make a foaming baby wash rather than a creamy wash or just a bubble bath.  I used an old one I had lying around from back in the day when I was not only a devoted patron of Bath and Body Works but also an employee.  It worked perfectly, and as Leah says, it does a great job in making the soap last.  Corban spends a lot of time playing in it since it is the perfect fascinating texture for a toddler, so it is important that it last a long time.  What is also important is that it does not contain a lot of harmful chemicals that commercial soaps contain.  I suggest you read Leah’s article, Why We Don’t Support Johnson & Johnson, to learn more and perhaps be inspired to take a more all-natural approach to what goes on your baby’s skin.

Homemade Foaming Baby Wash

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Dr. Bronner’s Liquid Castile Soap
  • 1 tsp vitamin E oil
  • 8 drops lavender oil (optional)
  • 2 drops tea tree oil (optional)
  • 1 cup filtered water

Directions:

  1. Using a funnel, combine all ingredients in foaming dispenser.
  2. Cap and gently shake dispenser to mix ingredients.

You can try experimenting with the essential oils you use or leave them out entirely.  It’s up to you.  I love using lavender as part of our bathtime routine because it is calming and relaxing which is great just before bedtime.  I use the tea tree oil for its anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties.  I think next time I might try using some chamomile essential oil.

We use this soap as a shampoo and a body wash for out little guy.  It caught on so well I am thinking about making some to use in our master bathroom.  I imagine this would be great as a hand soap as well.  My favorite part is that it is all-natural.  It always makes me feel good to do something healthy for my family.
