Guess the Sex of Our Baby!

When my mother was pregnant she and my father decided to keep the sex a secret. What was not a secret was that my mother really wanted a girl (after all, she already had two rotten boys at home). Nevertheless, being the incredibly awesome mother she is, in the end it did not matter to her whether I was a boy or a girl. My father, although known to adore girls more than boys, I am sure would have loved me either way as well (I would like to add that I am thankful to be a girl because no one wants to go through life with the name “Elmer Wayne”). I knew from the time I was little that when the time came for me to have a family of my own I would emulate them and keep the sex of my baby a secret. I would like to say I have help to continue a tradition, but we’ll have to wait and see what my kids decide to do before we can label it.

My husband, ever the devoted spouse and father, was a good sport about this decision. We never found out the sex of my first baby, even though my instincts and suspicions were screaming, “Boy!” The day he arrived, my husband did not say, “It’s a boy.” He simply whispered in my ear, “You were right.” Then I looked down and saw what confirmed it all!

We decided to keep the sex of Baby White #2 a secret as well. We have had two sonograms with this pregnancy. At both we were told to close our eyes and not look. It’s difficult knowing that there are two people in the world that know what my little bundle of joy will be, Phoebe or Séamus, and I have no clue. At the same time, it is kind of thrilling to know that one of life’s greatest blessings can still be anticipated. I would never be able to explain in words the overwhelming feeling that is brought on by the unveiling of such a surprise. The very thought of it is exciting and I would like to share some of that excitement with my readers. This is why I have decided to host a little contest asking you to guess the sex of our baby!

Baby White #2′s heartbeat is between 150-160bpm.
In the beginning of my pregnancy I dreamed that we were having a boy.

What’s Different This Pregnancy:

I constantly craved coconut with my son, but have not had any unique cravings this time around. Check out the State of the Uterus, a weekly pregnancy update, for more on this.
I had extreme heartburn, Restless Leg Syndrome, and charley horses with my son. That is not the case with pregnancy #2.
My feet, ankles, and legs were swollen with my son, but so far nothing like that has happened with Baby White #2.
Although it was not high, I had to worry about high blood pressure with my son. I have normal blood pressure this time around.
I “just knew” with my first pregnancy that my son was a boy. I have no particular feelings or instincts this time, although we are trying to “will” it to be a girl.
I had a lot more skin breakouts with my son than I have this time.
With my son I hardly had to shave my legs, but nothing like that changed this time (shucks).
I was more moody and uncomfortable with my son than I am now.
